East of Greenfield near Erving, the 4,500 acre Erving State Forest has miles of trails shared by hikers and bikers. The ESF is on the dividing line between Northern and Southern New England forests cultures thus producing high foliage diversity.

To reach the trailhead from Greenfield at Exit 26 of US91, head east on SR2 for about 20 miles through Erving. Follow the signs to the Laurel Lake Campground parking.

Overall, Erving State Forest is the 4th most popular hiking trail of all 36 hikes in Massachusetts.
