Hiking The Arrowhead State Trail

West of Ely near Tower, the 70 mile Arrowhead State Trail located in northeastern Minnesota from Tower to International Falls that passes over rolling terrain with several river crossings. This hiking route connects with the Taconite State Trail in the south near Tower.

To reach the hiking trailhead on the southern part of the trail (north of SR1) from the intersection of SR 1 and SR 135 in Tower go west on SR 1 for 6.5 miles. Parking is on the right.

Overall, Arrowhead State Trail is the 5th most popular hiking trail of all 31 hikes in Minnesota. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Arrowhead State Trail including Secret / Blackstone Trail System, Baker Lake / Johnson Lake Loop, Wheeler Peak Trail, Hendrys Creek / Mount Moriah Trail, Big Aspen Trail and Laurentian TrailBorder Route Trail.
