The 2nd most popular hiking trail in Minnesota.
Sunday 3 July 2016 01:55 GMT
Close to Tofte-Grand Marais in the Superior National Forest, most of the Devils Track Lake loop is a trail (25 mi.) and avoids vehicle traffic. A short section is a county road, so watch for traffic. The route passes Devils Track campground with camping facilities, water, outhouses and access to the lake.
To reach the hiking trailhead from Grand Marais, take the Gunflint Trail (CR 12) north to County Rd. 8. Go left on 8 and follow it to the USFS Devils Track Campground on Devil Track Rd. (CR 57).
Paved from campground east to fork in road. Gradual incline on state trail from east. North on dirt roads, and hit 3 miles of singletrack which bring you back to campground. (Take clockwise route! Steep 1 mile climb on state trail going counterclockwise!)
Overall, Devils Track Lake is the 2nd most popular hiking trail of all 31 hikes in Minnesota. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Devils Track Lake including Superior Hiking Trail - North, Superior Hiking Trail - Central and Superior Hiking Trail - South.
