Southwest of Concord and north of Hillsborough, the 1,500 acre Fox State Forest has 25 miles of backcountry trails open to bikers, hikers and skiers which offer super mountain vistas. These trails are difficult with roots, rocks and ledges. The 9 mile Ridge Trail is a figure-eight loop that roughly follows the border of this state forest and provided a great grand tour.
To reach the trailhead from Concord, head north on US89 to Exit #5. Head west on US202 towards Henniker and Hillsborough. Exit off US202 onto Main Street heading into Hillborough. In downtown Hillsborough, turn right heading north on School Street. At the US202 underpass, School Street turns into Center Road. Continue north on Center road for about 2 miles to the Forest Headquarters parking area.
Overall, Fox State Forest is the 8th most popular hiking trail of all 17 hikes in New Hampshire. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Fox State Forest including Bear Brook State Park, Pillsbury State Park and Hillsborough Trail.
