Hiking The Vesuvius Lakeshore Trail

North of Ironton and southeast of Pedro in the Wayne National Forest, the 8 mile Vesuvius Lakeshore Trail winds through lush forest near Lake Vesuvius.

To reach the hiking trailhead from Ironton, proceed north on SR 93 for 9 miles to SR 29. Head east to Lake Vesuvius. Follow signs to the Paddle Creek Trailhead.

Sand Hill and Paddle Creek: Take State Route 93 north out of Ironton for approximately 7 miles. Turn right at the Lake Vesuvius Recreation Area sign and travel approximately 3 miles on County Road 29 to the Sand Hill Trailhead. Township Road 245 dead ends at the Paddle Creek Trailhead.

Overall, Vesuvius Lakeshore Trail is the 11th most popular hiking trail of all 26 hikes in Ohio. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Vesuvius Lakeshore Trail including Bluegrass Trail, Stone Church Horse Trail, Wildcat Hollow and Kinderhook Horse Trail.
