Near Slate Run in the Tiadaghton State Forest, the Black Forest Trail is a 42 mile loop combining old railroad grades, old forest roads and trails through spectacular forests. This strenuous route climbs and descends numerous ridges, crosses many streams and is blazed with orange markers.

To reach the hiking trailhead from State Run, follow Slate Run Road west to parking area. Parking is also available north of Haneyville on SR44.

Overall, Black Forest Trail is the 5th most popular hiking trail of all 32 hikes in Pennsylvania.
