Near Wellsboro in the Tioga State Forest, the 31 mile West Rim Trail runs the western rim of the Pine Creek Gorge in the 13,000-acre Pine Creek Natural Area. The West Rim Trail is truly breathtaking during the fall foliage season from mid-September to mid-October. Its best to run from north-to-south beginning in Ansonia. Just three miles of walking brings you to Barbour Rock for a dizzying vista of steep canyon walls and Pine Creeks Owassee Rapids, 900 feet below. On the final day, follow the hiking trail through an old beaver meadow to your destination two miles south of Blackwell.
To reach the hiking trailhead from Wellsboro, take US 6 to Ansonia and follow Colton Road a half-mile to the West Rim Trail parking area.
Overall, West Rim Trail is the 2nd most popular hiking trail of all 30 hikes in Pennsylvania.
