Hiking The Swamp Fox National Recreation Trail

Near Awendaw, the 26 mile Swamp Fox National Recreation Trail is a wide route that is also share with mountian bikers. It passes through diverse habitat types, such as pine stands and hardwood forests, while rolling along old railroad trams. Due to the lowlands, it can get boggy after good rains.

To reach the eastern trailhead from Charleston, proceed north on US 17 to Steed Creek Road (SR133S) near Awendaw. Just beyond Steed Creek Road is the trailhead on the left.

Overall, Swamp Fox National Recreation Trail is the 2nd most popular hiking trail of all 12 hikes in South Carolina.
