Hiking The Swamp Fox National Recreation Trail

The 2nd most popular hiking trail in South Carolina.

Near Awendaw, this wide trail (26 mi.) shared by hikers and bikers passes through diverse habitat types (pine stands, hardwoods..) along old railroad trams. Due to the lowlands, it can get boggy after good rains.

To reach the eastern trailhead from Charleston, proceed north on US 17 to Steed Creek Road (SR133S) near Awendaw. Just beyond Steed Creek Road is the trailhead on the left.

Overall, Swamp Fox National Recreation Trail is the 2nd most popular hiking trail of all 16 hikes in South Carolina.
