Near Bennington in the Green Mountain National Forest, a 19 mile loop on the northern section of the Long Trail runs through a heavily wooded region. It follows old road and passes through Split Rock with vistas of Maple Hill. Stay at the Goddard Shelter at mile ten and take a ten-minute stroll to the Mount Glastenbury fire tower for one of the wildest views on the entire Long Trail. On day two, follow the West Ridge Trail from the shelter back to civilization.

To reach the hiking trailhead from Bennington, take SR 9 east for five miles to the Long Trail crossing. Youll have to walk a mile east on SR 9 at the end to pick up your car.

Overall, Long Trail to West Ridge Trail is the 3rd most popular hiking trail of all 9 hikes in Vermont.
