West of Cheyenne and south of Saratoga in the Medicine Bow National Forest, the 16 mile Encampment River Trail follows the namesake river through a narrow canyon. The route is open to horseback riding. It passes through a rugged gorge with bighorn sheep, mule dee and bald eagles.
Southwest of Encampment in the Medicine Bow National Forest, the Pipeline Trailhead provides horseback riding access to the Continental Divide Trail passing thru the Huston Park Wilderness Area. A nice section is the 13.9 mile route north to Red Mountain.
