Northeast of Houston, the 4,900 acre Lake Houston State Park has 12 miles of trails.

To reach the horseback riding trailhead from Houston, head north on US59 to the New Caney exit. Proceed east on FM1485 for 2 miles. Turn south on Baptist Encampment Road for 1.5 miles.

Overall, Lake Houston State Park is the 15th most popular horse trail of all 22 horseback rides in Texas. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Lake Houston State Park including Sam Houston National Forest, Big Sandy Creek Horse Trail, Lake Somerville State Park and Brazos Bend State Park.
