West of Dallas/Fort Worth, the Lake Mineral Wells State Park has a sandy 12 mile multi-use trail over rolling hills through wildflowers and Texas oak with many stream crossings.
The park also provides access to the Mineral Wells Trailway, a 22 mile multi-use route along an old railway from Mineral Wells to Weatherhead. Off the Trailway, there is another 10 miles of trail exclusively for horses.
To reach the trailhead from Mineral Wells, head east on US180 for 4 miles to the State Park.
Overall, Lake Mineral Wells State Park is the 9th most popular horse trail of all 22 horseback rides in Texas. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Lake Mineral Wells State Park including LBJ National Grasslands, Ray Roberts Lake State Park, San Angelo State Park and Parrie Haynes Ranch.
