East of El Paso near Salt Flat, the Guadalupe Mountains National Park has more than 80 miles of trails with great canyonland vistas. There are stock corrals at Dog Canyon. All stock trips must begin here. No horses are permitted in the backcountry over night.

Overall, Dog Canyon is the 17th most popular horse trail of all 22 horseback rides in Texas. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Dog Canyon including Davis Mountains State Park and Franklin Mountains State Park.
