South of Moulton in the Bankhead National Forest, the Pine Torch Horse Loop trailhead provides access to 3 loops. The main yellow-blazed Pine Torch Loop is 11 miles. The blue-blazed Brushy Loop is 6 miles. The third loop is about 12 miles and is marked with orange diamond blazes.
To reach the horseback riding trailhead from Moulton, head south on SR33. At the top hill, go about 2 to 3 miles you will see a brown sign Pine Torch Church. Turn left FS246 trail head is about 1 mile on left.
Overall, Pine Torch Horse Loop is the 4th most popular horse trail of all 10 horseback rides in Alabama. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Pine Torch Horse Loop including Black Warrior / Owl Creek Horse Trail, Sipsey Wilderness Horse Area and Flint Creek Multi-Use Trail.
