West of Crested Butte, the Horse Ranch Park campground provides access to two main trail systems.

The first system is accessed from the Dark Canyon Trail, just north of the camp 0.25 miles up the doubletrack. The Dark Canyon Trail enters the Ragged Wilderness Area and connects up with the Oh-Be-Joyfull Trail.

The second system is accessed from the Cliff Creek Trail, just west of the camp 0.25 miles down the main road on the left. The Cliff Creek Trail connects with the Lost Lake Trail and then the Dollar Lake Trail.

To reach the Horse Ranch Park camping area from Crested Butte, head west on Keebler Pass Road (CR12) for 12 miles. The park is on the right.

Overall, Horse Ranch Park is the 1st most popular horse trail of all 58 horseback rides in Colorado. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Horse Ranch Park including East / West Maroon Trail Loop, Oh Be Joyful and Rustler Gulch Trail.
