The Big Meadows Area has several trail options. The best horseback riding trailhead to use to reach the Big Meadows Area is the Onahu Creek Trailhead (4.7 miles one-way). From Big Meadows, a nice ride is to Grand Lake via the Tonahtu Trail.

To reach the Onahu Trailhead from Grand Lake, go 5 miles north on US 34. The trailhead is on the right.

Overall, Big Meadows is the 8th most popular horse trail of all 66 horseback rides in Colorado. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Big Meadows including Lost Lake Trail and East Inlet Trail / Adam Falls Trail.
