Northwest of Fort Collins in the Poudre Canyon area, the Jacks Gulch area offers several excellent horseback rides.

To reach Jacks Gulch from Fort Collins, head north on US25 to the SR14 exit. Head west on SR14 to SR287. Proceed north on SR287 to the Poudre Canyon Exit. Head west past Kelly Flats to the Pingree Park turn-off. Follow to the fork in the road and veer left. Park at the NFS Jacks Gulch campground, which has a nice equestrian camp with corrals

Ride the equestrian loop out of the campground and follow Flower Road for about 2 miles. Turn onto the Little Beaver Creek Trail and stay left to cross a couple of creeks. At the intersection with the Fish Creek Trail, either continue on Little Beaver Creek Trail or turn onto the Fish Creek trail.

Overall, Poudre River Canyon is the 6th most popular horse trail of all 66 horseback rides in Colorado. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Poudre River Canyon including Flowers Trail, Lory State Park, Pawnee Buttes Trail, Crosier Mountain Trail and Horsetooth Mountain Park.
