Acsending from Wet Beaver Creek, the 13 mile Apache Maid Horse Trail (#15) passes through red rock canyons on the way up to Apache Mountain lookout at FS620 & FS229. It is a 3,000 foot climb all the way up to the overlook.
To reach the horseback riding trailhead from Flagstaff, head south on US17 for 40 miles. Exit east onto SR179 for 1.5 miles to the Beaver Creek Ranger Station. Turn north for 0.25 miles to the parking lot.
Overall, Apache Maid Horse Trail is the 11th most popular horse trail of all 49 horseback rides in Arizona. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Apache Maid Horse Trail including Dead Horse Ranch State Park, Casner Mountain Trail, Hot Loop Trail and Dawa / Rupp Horse Loop.
