Mitchell Canyon Trail Horseback Riding

The 18th most popular equestrian trail in California.

Near Danville east of San Fran in the Mount Diablo State Park, the Mitchell Canyon Trail can be combined with fire roads to form a strenuous 12 mile loop up to one of the worlds most panoramic summits (over 3,000 feet vertical). The trails are of crushed granite with great drainage. Check out the side trail along Shell Ridge. The park is located near Danville off US 680 at the Diablo Road exit.

Two large staging areas for equestrian use: Mitchell Canyon staging area is located on the north side of the mountain near Clayton and the Macedo Ranch area is located in the west side of the park in Alamo. Most other trailhead are suitable for unloading horses with the exceptions of those trailheads with only limited parking along road shoulders.

Overall, Mitchell Canyon Trail is the 18th most popular horse trail of all 81 horseback rides in California.
