Near Makanda, the Giant City State Park has a nice 12 mile horseback riding loop.

To reach the trailhead from Murphysboro, head east on SR13 to US51. Head south on US51 to the park entrance. Turn left heading east into the park.

Overall, Giant City State Park is the 17th most popular horse trail of all 22 horseback rides in Illinois.
