Sangchris Lake State Park Horseback Riding

Southeast of Springfield near Rochester, the Sangchris Lake State Park has 5 miles of designated trails from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The horseback riding trail winds through reforested fields over relatively flat terrain. Parking and toilets are available at the trail-head.

The park is located about 15 miles southeast of Springfield, near Rochester in Sangamon and Christian counties. Traveling from the north, southbound I 55 South to exit 96A (Route 29). Route 29 to Rochester, IL. Turn right at the 2nd stoplight, Walnut Street, at the Sangchris Lake sign. Travel south 5.5 miles to a 4-way stop, New City. Turn left at park sign and travel 3 more miles. Traveling from the south, Northbound I 55 North to Exit 82 (Route 104). Route 104 east 6.1 miles through Pawnee and turn left, north, at Sangchris Lake sign. Travel 4.5 miles to a 4-way stop, New city. Turn right at Sangchris Lake sign and travel 3 more miles.
