Near Marquette in northwest Iowa, the 8,500 acre Yellow River State Forest has over 10 miles of bridle trails that meander through oak-hickory forest rife with wild turkeys, deer, Coopers hawks, and woodchucks and leads to big views of the Paint Creek Valley.

To reach the horseback riding trailhead from Marquette, on the Mississippi, drive 12 miles north on SR 76, turn right on CR B25, and drive four miles to forest headquarters.

Overall, Yellow River State Forest is the 2nd most popular horse trail of all 6 horseback rides in Iowa.
