West of Knoxville and north of Harriman, the 3,600 acre Lone Mountain State Forest has miles of trails open to mountain biking, hiking and horseback riders.

To reach the trailhead from Oliver Springs, head west on SR61. Turn north on US27 for 7 miles. Turn west on Clayton Howard Road to the Forest HQ.

Overall, Lone Mountain State Forest is the 8th most popular horse trail of all 21 horseback rides in Tennessee. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Lone Mountain State Forest including Norris Watershed and Panther Creek State Park.
