Near Philadelphia in the Delaware Valley, the 9,000 acre Fairmount Park has a scenic 4,000 acre northwest section called the Wissahickon Valley. The Wissahickon Trail System is a 20+ mile network with some of the best hiking in the northeast over varied terrain. The system is well-marked and consists of looping trails through ancient elms and oaks. The southern 8 mile loop is very popular.

To reach the horseback riding trailhead from Phili, head west on US76 to the Belmont Ave exit. Turn right heading north across the Schuylkill River. Continue on Green Lane for a mile and turn left on Green Lane. Next, turn left onto Ridge Avenue. After a block, turn right onto Leverington Ave. Turn left onto Henry Avenue for 2 miles into Fairmount Park. Turn right onto Wises Mill Road for 0.75 miles and park on left.

Overall, Wissahickon Valley is the 6th most popular horse trail of all 11 horseback rides in Pennsylvania.
