Southeast of DC and Brandywine, the 3,500 acre Cedarville State Forest has 19 miles of horseback riding trails for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians around Marylands largest freshwater swamp. The trails are relatively flat with a few rolls, but no rocks. Some areas can be extremely wet in the spring.
To reach the trialhead from US 301 in Brandywine, head east on SR381 for 5.5 miles. Turn west on Cedarville Road for 2.7 miles. Turn south on Bee Oak Road for 1 mile to trailhead parking at Visitor Center.
Overall, Cedarville State Forest is the 5th most popular horse trail of all 10 horseback rides in Maryland.
