McDowell Mountain Regional Park Horseback Riding

East of Phoenix near Fountain Hills, the 16 mile Pemberton Trail which is a classic ride in the 21,000 acre McDowell Mountain Regional Park of Maricopa County Parks. The horseback riding loop starts from the horse staging area and follows blazes clockwise. There is a shorter loop known as the 3 mile North Trail.
The park is 4 miles north of Fountain Hills. To reach the trailhead from Phoenix, follow SR57 north to Foothills Drive. Head north on North Foothills Blvd.
This area is very popular with mountain bikers, so consider going early on weekday mornings.
Overall, McDowell Mountain Regional Park is the 17th most popular horse trail of all 49 horseback rides in Arizona. Several of the better horse trails are nearby McDowell Mountain Regional Park including South Mountain Park, Usery Mountain Regional Park and Estrella Mountain Regional Park.
