Red Canyon Horseback Riding
East of Cedar City and west of Bryce in the Dixie National Forest, the Red Canyon area is a scenic red rock canyon with ponderosa pine and sage forests laced with a nice trail network. Note, there are no sources of water along most of the trails.
The Cassidy Trail (#93) is a 8.7 mile route through the scenic red rock formations of Red Canyon North Roadless Area. The trail connects with the Losee Canyon Trail and the Casto Canyon Trail.
The Casto Canyon Trail (#89) is a 5.3 mile route following the canyon bottom. The trail begins at the mouth of Casto Canyon and leads to the Cassidy Trail. This is considered the most scenic of all the large canyons in the Red Canyon area.
The Losee Canyon Trail (#90) is a short 3 mile trail leading to the Cassidy Trail. The route follows the canyon bottom throug many red rock formations.
To reach the horseback riding trailhead from Cedar City, head east on SR14. It dead ends at US89. Turn left heading north on US89. At SR12, turn right heading east for about 3 miles into Red Canyon. The trailhead parking is on the left (north side of the road).
To reach the trailhead from Bryce, head west on SR12 into Red Canyon.
