Bear Valley Lakes Trail Horseback Riding

The 4th most popular equestrian trail in Idaho.

South of Salmon and southeast of Lemhi, the Bear Valley Lakes Trail (#6179) is a 5.4 mile route open to horseback riding. The trail ranges from 6,800 feet to 9,200 on its way from the NFS Bear Valley Campground up to Bear Valley Lake. There is a 1.2 mile side trail to Upper Bear Valley Lakes.

To reach the trailhead from Lemhi, head north on SR28 for 1 mile. Turn left heading southwest on Hayden Creek Road (FS008) for 8.5 miles. Turn right heading west on Bear Valley Creek Road (FS009) for 4.7 miles to the end of the road at the campground. There is a stock ramp at the campground.

Note: there is heavy motorized usage of this trail.

Overall, Bear Valley Lakes Trail is the 4th most popular horse trail of all 56 horseback rides in Idaho.
