Southeast of Salmon and west of Leadore in the Leadore Ranger District, the Big Eightmile Trail #6183 is a 6 mile horseback riding route ranging from 7,700 feet to 10,200 along Big Eightmile Creek into scenic alpine meadows. There are sweeping vistas from the summit.

To reach the horseback riding trailhead from Leadore, head west on Lee Creek Road for 6.5 miles. Turn southwest on FS096 for 6.5 miles to Big Eightmile Campground.

Overall, Big Eightmile Trail is the 3rd most popular horse trail of all 56 horseback rides in Idaho.
