North of Boston and west of Lynn, the 2,200 acre Lynn Woods Reservation is a local favorite desitination close to Boston. There are orangle-blazed forest roads open to horseback riding through pine forest along wetlands and ponds (including Walden Pond).
To reach the trailhead from US1, use the Walnut Street Exit (Saugus). Head east on Walnut Street for 2 miles. Turn left on Pennybrook Road to the end.
Overall, Lynn Woods Reservation is the 22nd most popular horse trail of all 23 horseback rides in Massachusetts. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Lynn Woods Reservation including Myles Standish State Forest, Wompatuck State Park, Willowdale State Forest and F. Gilbert Hills State Forest.
