Northeast of Santa Fe in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains, the Big Tesque Campground make a great base for exploring the 15 miles of surrounding trails.

To reach the horseback riding trailhead from Sante Fe, head northeast on SR475 (FS101) towards the Santa Fe Ski Area. The campground is about halfway up.

Overall, Sante Fe Basin is the 5th most popular horse trail of all 22 horseback rides in New Mexico.
