Northeast of Albany and Grafton, the Grafton Lakes State Park has over 20 miles of trails open to hiking, biking, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. The park is located on the 1,500 feet forested mountain plateau between the Taconic and Hudson Valleys.

To reach the horseback riding trailhead from Albany, head north on US787 to Troy. Head east on SR2 to Grafton. The trailhead parking lot is located just north of town near the park office.

Overall, Grafton Lakes State Park is the 9th most popular horse trail of all 22 horseback rides in New York. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Grafton Lakes State Park including Otter Creek Horse Trails and Deer River Horse Trail.
