North of Newark and Newton in Sussex County, the 15,700 Stokes State Forest has 31 miles of trails.

To reach the horseback riding trailhead from Branchville, head north on SR206 for 4 miles. Turn right heading northeast on Coursen Road. There are several places to park to access trails.

Overall, Stokes State Forest is the 7th most popular horse trail of all 19 horseback rides in New Jersey.
