South of Buffalo and Ellicottville near Salamanca, the 65,000 acre Allegheny State Park has 45 miles trails open to horseback riding.

To reach the trailhead from US86, use Exit 21. Head south on Parkway Drive (Park Ave. or Route 1). There are trailheads located at 3 miles and 6 miles.

Overall, Allegany State Park is the 4th most popular horse trail of all 22 horseback rides in New York. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Allegany State Park including Letchworth State Park, Erie Canal Trail and Bond Lake Park.
