Erie Canal Trail Horseback Riding

The Erie Canal Heritage Trail (aka Canalway Trail) is a 220 mile horseback riding route from Lockport to Fairport. The gravel trail follows old canal towpaths and abandoned railway corridors.

Directions to trailhead in Lockport: Heading east from downtown on Route 31, turn North onto Cold Springs Road. Cross a bridge and turn right onto North Canal Road to parking area.

The horseback riding trail also is accessible in Batavia, Fairport, Palmyra.

Overall, Erie Canal Trail is the 12th most popular horse trail of all 22 horseback rides in New York.
