The Old Erie Canal Trail is a 36 mile horseback riding route from Dewitt to Rome. The stone dust trail follows an old canal towpath.

To reach the horseback riding trailhead in DeWitt, follow US90 to Syracuse Exit 34A for I-481. I-481 south to Exit 3 for Rt 5 and 92 east. Follow 1.2 miles to left fork onto Lyndon Road. Parking 1 mile at Cedar Bay Picnic Area. Trail access over Canal Footbridge at bottom of incline.

Overall, Old Erie Canal Trail is the 13th most popular horse trail of all 22 horseback rides in New York.
