Best Hickory Ridge Trail Horseback Riding

Northeast of Bedford near Heltonville in the Hoosier National Forest, the Hickory Ridge Trail is a 46 mile horseback riding trail network. The Hickory Ridge trailhead has trailer parking and a camping area.

To reach the trailhead from US65, take US65 approximately four miles south of Columbus to IN 58 (Exit 64). Go west on IN 58, 15.2 miles to the junction of IN 258/58. Take IN 58 to the right. After 17 miles on IN 58, this road merges with IN 135. Take IN 58/135 to the left. At 18.2 miles, take a right on IN 58 west as it splits from IN 135. At 26 miles take a right on County Road 1250 west (marked by the Hickory Ridge sign). CR 1250 west turns into Route 650 north. At 27.5 miles, the road splits and turns to gravel. Take the right split following the small U.S. Forest Service sign. At 28 miles turn left into Hickory Ridge's parking and camping area.

Overall, Hickory Ridge Trail is the 6th most popular horse trail of all 11 horseback rides in Indiana. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Hickory Ridge Trail including Nebo Ridge, Birdseye Trail, German Ridge Trail, Youngs Creek Trail, Shirley Creek Horse Trail and Oriole East Trail.
