East of Santa Rosa in the Sonoma Valley, the 5,000 acre Annadel State Park has miles of meandering trails dirt roads open to hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders. The trails are well signed and pass through open meadows and oak/fir forests. As Annies Dell used to be an old quarry, the routes can be quite rocky. Keep in mind that Annadel is extremely popular with mountain bikers since theyve been forced out of other regional preserves, so keep an eye out.
To reach the trailhead from Santa Rosa off US101, follow SR12 as it eventually turns into Farmers Lane. Turn right onto Montgomery Drive and then turn right on Channel Drive into the park. Follow Channel Drive to the parking lot at the end.
From the parking area, follow the Warren Richardson Trail (an old fireroad) to access most of the trails.
Overall, Annadel State Park is the 29th most popular horse trail of all 81 horseback rides in California. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Annadel State Park including Deer Park Fire Road and Skyline Park.
