Northwest of Blacksburg at the Pandapos Pond Recreation Area, the Poverty Creek trail network has over 17 miles of horseback riding routes. The trails include Poverty Creek Trail, Gap Mountain Trail and Brush Mountain Trail.

To reach the horseback riding trailhead from Blacksburg, head west on SR460. Turn left across crom SR621 to the trailhead parking area.

Overall, Poverty Creek Trail is the 12th most popular horse trail of all 35 horseback rides in Virginia. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Poverty Creek Trail including Cumberland Mountain Trail, Shenandoah Mountain Horse Trail System, Allegheny Trail, North Mountain, Signal Knob Loop and Glenwood Horse TrailDry Run Trail.
