Located 13 miles northeast of Wytheville in the Jefferson National Forest, the Tract Fork Trail is a wide horseback riding trail along Tract Fork Creek. The yellow-blazed trail runs 4 mile one-way between trailheads at Tract Mountain and Walker Mountain. A nice side trail is the orange-blazed Polecat Trail which runs 1.5 miles to FS707 along the Peak Creek drainage basin.
To reach the horseback riding trailhead from Wytheville, follow SR603 north for four miles. At SR600, proceed east for 9 miles to the parking area at the top of Walker Mountain.
Overall, Tract Fork Trail is the 17th most popular horse trail of all 35 horseback rides in Virginia. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Tract Fork Trail including Laurel Fork Trail, Trails Of Dismal, Crawfish/Channel Rock Loop, Balcony Falls Trail, Sulphur Spring Trail and Piney Ridge Trail.
