One Horse Gap Trail System

The 6th most popular equestrian trail in Illinois.

Near Vienna, the One Horse Gap Trail System is a 10 mile trail network. It is famous for the short gap trail which is a narrow slot through bluffs. The route is along trails, dirt roads and wagon roads. The routes are marked with white diamonds.

To reach the trailhead from Elizabethtown, head west on SR146 for 6 miles to One Horse Gap Blacktop (SR34). Turn north on Blacktop for 3 miles to the Crossroads (FS126). If you are hauling a trailer, park along the lake dam road. The trail heads west from this road. Turn right on 126E and go just over 1 mile to parking.

Note: The Nine Day Trail Ride in late July / early August attracts thousand of riders to this area.

Overall, One Horse Gap Trail System is the 6th most popular horse trail of all 22 horseback rides in Illinois.
