Big Aspen Horse Trail
The 4th most popular equestrian trail in Minnesota.

North of Duluth and Virginia, the Big Aspen Trail is a 20 mile multi-purpose route open to horseback riding. The looping trail system follows old logging roads and railroad grades while passing through pine and hardwood forests. It has a hard-packed dirt and grass surface. This trail is popular with hikers, mountain bikers, horseback and ATV riders.
To reach the trailhead from Virginia, head north on SR53 for 8 miles. Turn right on CR131 for 1 mile. Turn left on CR68 for 0.3 miles. Continue straight on CR405 for 2 miles to parking lot.
Overall, Big Aspen Horse Trail is the 4th most popular horse trail of all 12 horseback rides in Minnesota. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Big Aspen Horse Trail including St Croix State Forest and McCarthy Beach State Park.
