Near Jackson in the Bienville National Forest, the Shockaloe Horse Trail is a 23 mile route open to horseback riding.

To reach the trailhead from the town of Forest, head west on US80 for 4 miles to National Forest Trail sign (Forest Rt. 513). Turn right onto Rt. 513 and proceed about 0.4 miles to campground.

The trail crosses several local roads and allows the rider the option of several rides of varying lengths from 1.5 to 23 miles. There are two support base camps associated with the trail. Base Camp 1 is located .25 mile north of US 80 on Forest Service Road 513. Base Camp 2 is located approximately five miles further north of FS 513. Each of these areas has sanitary facilities, picnic tables, cooking grills, hitching rails, drinking water, and an open area for parking and camping. Base Camp 2 is open yearly while Base Camp 1 is operated under a seasonal closure policy and is open April through October. The trail is marked throughout its entire length with trail signs and markers. The standard marker is a wooden sigh with a horse and rider on it. These markers are placed at intervals along the trail and are easily followed while using the trail. There are several challenging jumps located at various places along the trail, and these are marked with signs depicting a mounted horse- man making a jump. There is an alternate route located around these jumps and riders wishing to avoid them are able to go around them.

Overall, Shockaloe Horse Trail is the 2nd most popular horse trail of all 7 horseback rides in Mississippi.
