Eagle Cliff Trails Horseback Riding

The 6th most popular equestrian trail in South Dakota.

Southwest of Spearfish near Lead in the Black Hills National Forest, the Eagle Cliff Trails is a horseback riding network of 21 trails totaling over 27 miles.

To reach the horseback riding trailhead from Spearfish, take Hwy 14A south through Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway to Hwy 85 at Cheyenne Crossing. Take Hwy 85 southwest for 3.7, 7.3, 8.1 and 9.1 miles to the trailheads.

The Eagle Cliff Trails were developed by local skiing enthusiasts in the mid 1980's. This trail system became popular among other recreationists because of the opportunity to create your own adventure.

With twenty-one intertwining loop and dead-end trails, the system offers fun and challenge at every turn. Trails range from short, rugged and remote to longer, looping trails with a range of difficulty. The opportunity to combine trails and create a unique experience is only one of the highlights of this system.

Overall, Eagle Cliff Trails is the 6th most popular horse trail of all 17 horseback rides in South Dakota.
