Northeast of Yuba City and southwest of Downieville, the 28 mile Bullards Bar Trail is a scenic horseback ride contouring Marysville Lake on a rolling trail.

To reach the Dark Day Trailhead from Nevada City, take SR49 to Marysville Road (CR E20) 2 miles south of Camptonville and turn left. Follow this road for 2.6 miles to the Dark Day Picnic Area/Boat Ramp turn off. Turn right and head towards the boat ramp parking areas. Both east and west trail sections can be accessed here.

Overall, Bullards Bar Loop Horse Trail is the 40th most popular horse trail of all 81 horseback rides in California. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Bullards Bar Loop Horse Trail including South Yuba River Trail, Mount Lola Trail, Pioneer Trail and Grouse Ridge Trail.
