Northeast of Nevada City in the Tahoe National Forest, the South Yuba Trail is a 13 mile stretch of pristine horseback riding trail. This rolling trail is mildly technical bordering above the Yuba River on a cliff with lots of swimming holes and skinny dippers. It is open to hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders.
To reach the eastern trailhead from Nevada City, follow SR20 east for 13 miles toward Truckee. Turn at Washington Road and proceed for six miles. After crossing the Yuba, follow Relief Road toward Pooremans Creek and park at trailhead.
Overall, South Yuba River Trail is the 49th most popular horse trail of all 81 horseback rides in California. Several of the better horse trails are nearby South Yuba River Trail including Bullards Bar Loop Horse Trail, Mount Lola Trail, Pioneer Trail and Grouse Ridge Trail.
