Sand Ridge Lake Trail Horseback Riding

The 43rd most popular equestrian trail in California.

Northwest of Truckee and north of Soda Springs in the Tahoe National Forest, the Sand Ridge Lake Trail is a 6 mile route.

To reach the horseback riding trailhead from US80, use the Castle Peak Area / Boreal Ridge Road Exit (west of Donner Summit Roadside Rest Area). On the southside of the highway, there is a sign for the NF trailhead. Follow the directions on the sign turning east for 0.4 miles to the trailhead.

Head north on the PCT from the trailhead for 4 miles to the Peter Grubb Hut. Turn northwest on the Sand Ridge Lake Trail for 1.5 miles to the lake. Return via the same route.

Overall, Sand Ridge Lake Trail is the 43rd most popular horse trail of all 81 horseback rides in California.
