Near Truckee in the Tahoe National Forest, the Commemorative Emigrant Trail is a 15 mile route.

To reach the horseback riding trailhead from Truckee at US80, take the Hwy 89 N exit, go 2.3 miles to Alder Creek Road. Turn left and proceed for 3 mi. on Alder Creek Road. Trail starts on the south side.

Overall, Emigrant Trail is the 38th most popular horse trail of all 81 horseback rides in California. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Emigrant Trail including Tahoe Rim Horse Trail, Sand Ridge Lake Trail, Loon Lake Horse Trail, Red Peak Trail, Fleming Meadow Trail, Dru Barner Equestrian Campground and Burlington Ridge Trail Complex.
