South of Port Angeles, the Foothills Trail system has 15 miles of looping horseback riding trails shared by mountain bikers, equestrians and trail bikes.

To reach the horseback riding trailhead from Port Angeles, head west on US101 to Black Diamond Road. Turn south on Black Diamond Road. Turn left on Little River Road for one mile and left on the first forest road to the trailhead.

Overall, Foothills Trail is the 5th most popular horse trail of all 32 horseback rides in Washington. Several of the better horse trails are nearby Foothills Trail including Mount Muller Trail, Dungeness Trail / Gold Creek Trail, Sadie Creek Trail, Lower Big Quilcene Trail, Lower South Fork Skokomish Trail and Duckabush Trail.
