Near Trout Lake, the Cold Springs Trail / Gotchen Creek Trail horseback riding route combines four miles north up FS8040 on the south slopes of Mt. Adams, 3.7 miles south down the Cold Springs Trail and 2 miles west along the Gotchen Creek Trail back to the road. It descends from the tree-line through lava flows, some old growth ponderosa and wild flowers. Park just north of the junction of FS8040 and Trail #40.
